Vintage photography inspired drawing
The reference photo for this drawing was taken almost a year ago on a sweltering summer day. The model is my friend Ian who patiently struck pose after pose for me despite the heat and the fact that I had no idea what I was doing. I did get quite a few awesome shots though!
Taking my inspiration from vintage photography and my collection of stereo cards in particular I began working on a drawing from this same image a few days after that shoot but it wasn't going how I wanted so I stopped working on it. When I started it over this time around I managed to figure out the right combination of media to match my vision of it. (I even "yellowed" paper with coffee but the camera didn't pick it up.) I'm really happy with the results and plan to do more drawings with a vintage look.

If I could think of an apt title I'd put it here
So far the watercolor paper and I have been been playing nice but I'm still not sure whether I like the slight texture it gives my drawings. On the other had I've been experimenting with ways to make my drawings look more like a painting and less like...well, a drawing so the paper definitely helps in that regard. This particular (very much unfinished drawing) was inspired by my love of vintage photographs. I'll get into that a bit more when I post the finished piece but until then heres some linkage to one of my favorite vintage photo sites: Recycled Relatives.
